چکیده

Background Among grape skin polyphenols, trans-resveratrol (RES) has been reported to slow the development of cardiac fibrosis and to affect myofibroblast (MFB) differentiation. Because MFBs induce slow conduction and ectopic activity following heterocellular gap junctional coupling to cardiomyocytes, we investigated whether RES and its main metabolites affect arrhythmogenic cardiomyocyteMFB interactions.

Resveratrol suppresses myofibroblast activity of human buccal mucosal fibroblasts through the epigenetic inhibition of ZEB1 expression

Oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) is a precancerous condition of the oral mucosa without specific therapeutic drugs. We previously demonstrated that the zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1) plays a pathogenic role in the induction of the myofibroblast activity of buccal mucosal fibroblasts (BMFs) and contributes to the pathogenesis of OSF. Resveratrol is a natural polyphenolic flavonoid with...

Resveratrol-Mediated Repression and Reversion of Prostatic Myofibroblast Phenoconversion

BACKGROUND Resveratrol, a phytoalexin found in berries, peanuts, grapes, and red wine, inhibits oxidation, inflammation, and cell proliferation and collagen synthesis in multiple cell types and or animal models. It represses collagen deposition in the vasculature, heart, lung, kidney, liver, and esophagus in animal models and may have some utility as an anti-fibrotic. Recent studies have shown ...

Resveratrol ameliorates myocardial fibrosis by inhibiting ROS/ERK/TGF-β/periostin pathway in STZ-induced diabetic mice

BACKGROUND Myocardial fibrosis is an essential hallmark of diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) contributing to cardiac dysfunctions. Resveratrol, an antioxidant, exerts its anti-fibrotic effect via inhibition of oxidative stress, while the underlying molecular mechanism remains largely elusive. Periostin, a fibrogenesis matricellular protein, has been shown to be associated with oxidative stress. In ...

Inhibition of cardiac fibroblast proliferation and myofibroblast differentiation by resveratrol.

Cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) regulate myocardial remodeling by proliferating, differentiating, and secreting extracellular matrix proteins. Prolonged activation of CFs leads to cardiac fibrosis and reduced myocardial contractile function. Resveratrol (RES) exhibits a number of cardioprotective properties; however, the possibility that this compound affects CF function has not been considered. The ...

Proteomics and microRNA profiling in cardiac fibrosis

Cardiac fibrosis is characterized by the deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) and mediated by cardiac fibroblasts via the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) signaling pathways. Recognition of TGFβ by fibroblasts leads to myofibroblast differentiation as well as induction of ECM protein expression. An imbalance between proand anti-fibrotic signals resul...
